E-commerce giant Amazon recently announced that it will launch an online academy “Amazon Academy” in India. The platform will provide learning services through Android applications and websites, including learning materials, live lectures on mathematics, physics and chemistry subjects, as well as evaluation and simulation tests.

It is reported that these contents are currently free, and will continue to be free in the next few months, and may eventually adopt a payment model.
According to Amol Gurwara, director of education for Amazon’s Indian market, the platform is mainly aimed to help students interested in engineering prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) of Indian engineering colleges. Students could achieve results, and meanwhile, this platform also allows educators and content partners to reach millions of students. The platform is very concerned about content quality, deep learning analysis and student experience.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to Amazon academy, Amazon has launched other education platforms, including AWS Educate, a cloud technology skills training platform, and Amazon Ignite, an online course resource trading platform.
In recent years, many giants in the education technology field have taken a fancy to India’s huge market of more than one billion people and have entered India one after another. In the past few years, in addition to Amazon’s efforts to expand its business in India, Facebook has cooperated with India’s Central Committee of Secondary Education (CBSE) last year to launch certification courses for students, such as digital security and augmented reality. Google also announced last year that it would join hands with CBSE to launch an online education project in India.
